About Spitfire Designs
Spitfire Designs believes in handcrafted one of a kind pieces for a one of a kind person. I try to appeal to all kinds of people with all kinds of tastes. I have never been a big fan of the latest fad from a chain store. I like to make things that are unusual and stunning. I believe that jewelry should accentuate your personality or mood. If one day you are feeling bold and confident, you might choose to wear something that is bold and expressive. If you feel elegant and refined, maybe something simple and classy would better suit you. It?s all up to you. My goal is to bring unique designs and colors together to create pieces that speak to the people that see them. I make jewelry for all kinds of personalities, occasions and lifestyles.
WHO IS THE SPITFIRE BEHIND SPITFIRE DESIGNS?
The spitfire behind the designs is me, Holly Thomas. I have always been creative and my freshman year of college I went to Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science. I began majoring in fashion, but quickly changed majors because I didn't want to be a starving artist. I then went to Temple University and majored in Journalism and Public Relations. I worked in radio for awhile and also wrote for a British newspaper. One day a friend, who made jewelry for a hobby, asked me to go with her to a gem and bead show. I went and bought material to make Christmas presents. My brother thought that I should be selling the designs I made instead of giving them as presents. So, I put the cart before the horse and went and had business cards made before selling a thing. I took a risk and it worked! I started a business that I love and I finally found the outlet I needed to channel my creative energy. At least this is it for now! We shall see what's next!
Holly is a member of Swarthmore's 'Friends of the Arts' and teaches classes on jewelry design locally. She has been chosen for events having to do with Philadelphia STYLE magazine, as well as for events at the Philadelphia Art Museum. Her jewelry has become a staple at black tie silent auctions for Crozer Hospital and even Channel 6 Action News has been sporting her designs. She currently sells mostly out of her home, but also sells in stores in Swarthmore, Newtown Square, Glen Mills and Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. She contributes to cancer charities due to having lost both a father and sister to cancer. Holly does homeshows to help support individual cancer victims in the Philadelphia region.
